Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are known as the most annoying insect to ruin summer fun. Only female mosquitoes bite. They use their mouth, which looks like an upside-down funnel to pierce through to the skin. Male mosquitoes feed solely on plant juices. Most female mosquitoes lay up to 400 eggs at a time, in water or near water. Eggs hatch in 1-2 days into larvae and they reach adulthood in about 10 days’ time, if temperature conditions are ideal. Breeding sites for mosquitoes are locations such as backed up gutters, flower pots, watering cans, wheelbarrows and birdbaths. Standing water plays a major role in the growing population around structures. Typically females bite and are most aggressive around sunset and sunrise when winds are lower, humidity is high and temperatures are warm.
