Bed Bugs
These bloodsucking insects have been known to turn people’s lives upside down, these little hitchhikers are sneaky and infest human and pets sleeping quarters. They are up to 4.5mm, reddish brown in colour and females produce 200-500 eggs in a lifetime, living on average just over a year.
Once introduced into structures with no precautions of control, populations can explode very quickly and cause negative emotional symptoms in individuals due to lack of sleep, itchy bites that can turn into open wounds/sores and fear that insects will spread to other areas of the home.
Bed bugs are usually transferred into homes through travel, public transit, close proximity in apartment buildings, hotels, motels etc. When biting they inject anticoagulant into the skin that causes skin to become irritated and inflamed. Sometimes extreme welts can develop.
Psychological Effects; infestations of Bed bugs can be mentally troublesome for some individuals from repeatedly being bit, causing nightmares, flashbacks, insomnia, anxiety, avoidance behaviours and personal dysfunction.
